The TAFT Interpreter provides bilingual translation and cultural communication support for the Artillery Officers Basic Training Course (AOBTC). This role ensures complete and accurate translation between U.S. TAFT instructors and Iraqi students during classroom instruction, field training, technical demonstrations, and practical evaluations. Interpreters serve as essential communication enablers who facilitate clear understanding of complex artillery concepts, safety procedures, course expectations, and mission‑specific terminology.
This position requires fluency in both English and Iraqi‑dialect Arabic, with a strong ability to translate technical military language, artillery terminology, and fire‑support concepts. The Interpreter supports the creation of training materials by translating PowerPoints, student handouts, assessment tools, and course documentation. Interpreters also ensure cultural awareness and promote effective interaction between instructors, students, and partnered Iraqi military leadership.
• Provide real‑time, accurate translation during classroom lessons, field demonstrations, live‑fire rehearsals, command‑post exercises, and technical training sessions.
• Translate written training materials—including PowerPoints, manuals, student worksheets, assessments, and course guides—ensuring technical accuracy and consistency across all materials.
• Support clear communication of complex artillery and fire‑support terminology, including gunnery concepts, call‑for‑fire procedures, AFATDS terminology, and safety requirements.
• Facilitate communication between U.S. instructors and Iraqi students during evaluations, feedback sessions, administrative discussions, and performance counseling.
• Maintain professionalism and cultural sensitivity in high‑tempo training environments, acting as a bridge between instructors and students to strengthen rapport and understanding.
• Assist instructors in verifying student comprehension, clarifying misunderstood topics, and ensuring accurate relay of doctrinally correct information.
• Support translation during engagements with Iraqi leadership, unit officers, and military staff, as required for coordination and official communications.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Five (5) years of technical training and interpreting experience in austere or remote environments.
• Fluent in spoken and written English and Arabic (Iraqi dialect).
• Familiarity with U.S. military terminology, tactical vocabulary, and artillery‑related concepts.
