The TAFT Interpreter provides mission‑critical bilingual communication support for all Master Gunner Training Course (MGTC) instruction, including classroom lessons, technical demonstrations, turret training, maintenance instruction, coaching sessions, and live‑fire or field‑based training events.
Interpreters ensure precise, real‑time translation between U.S. TAFT instructors and Iraqi students, supporting the delivery of highly technical content related to fire‑control systems, ballistics, turret operations, gunnery theory, maintenance procedures, safety requirements, and course evaluations.
This role requires mastery of English and Iraqi‑dialect Arabic, with the ability to accurately translate advanced military terminology, weapons system nomenclature, tactical directions, and doctrinal language. Interpreters are also responsible for translating written materials such as PowerPoints, student handouts, training reports, evaluations, and operational documentation.
• Provide accurate real‑time translation during MGTC classroom instruction, turret‑based training, hands‑on maintenance sessions, and field/gunnery events where precise technical communication is critical.
• Translate written material including PowerPoints, student packets, academic evaluations, practical training sheets, operational checklists, and official correspondence.
• Support instructors during performance evaluations by translating scoring criteria, corrective feedback, safety instructions, and remediation guidance clearly and accurately.
• Ensure proper translation of technical gunnery terminology, fire‑control commands, mechanical component names, diagnostic procedures, and engagement‑related vocabulary.
• Facilitate communication during coordination meetings with Iraqi MoD representatives, unit leadership, and student leadership, ensuring mutual understanding of training goals and expectations.
• Assist instructors in verifying student comprehension, identifying misunderstandings, and ensuring doctrinal accuracy in all translated material.
• Maintain professionalism and cultural awareness while supporting high‑tempo, dynamic training environments, ranging from classroom instruction to active field ranges.
• Provide essential support during practical exercises, where safety‑critical instructions must be communicated flawlessly to ensure safe operation of weapon systems and training equipment.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Five (5) years of technical training and interpreting experience in austere or remote environments.
• Fluent in spoken and written English and Arabic (Iraqi dialect).
• Familiarity with U.S. military terminology and acronyms, especially those associated with gunnery, armor systems, and maintenance operations.
